Recently, we travelled up to Auckland to spend a few days on the beautiful Waiheke Island! If you follow us on social media you will have seen us posting about it non-stop for the last week or so - we had such a good time and I've been dying to write a full blog post about our stay!

We crossed over to the island on the ferry from Britomart, Auckland late at night, so everything was blanketed in darkness when we arrived. Waking up in the morning and looking out our huge glass doors was a huge surprise! We were lucky enough to be working with Palm Beach Bungalows during our stay, and stayed in 'Treetops' which is exactly as it sounds - a private treetop bungalow nestled amongst the native trees. Palm Beach Bungalows is self-catered, boutique accommodation hosted by the wonderful Kate and her husband Graeme. It's super easy to jump on the public transport system and catch a bus right from the ferry terminal, with the bus stop stopping literally 50m from the bungalows entrance! The bus drivers on Waiheke are awesome (as are the locals) and always seemed willing to help us out - there was one occasion where we got a little lost and forgot to jump off the bus at the right stop, and the bus driver noticed, turned around and dropped us right back where we needed to be! Can't really ask for better service than that! ;-)

We spent our days exploring the island mostly on foot - stopping whereever we wanted to stop and taking in the sights. Everywhere you turn on Waiheke seems to be straight out of a postcard, whether you're walking barefoot along a white sand beach, or looking out over the vineyards at sunset. We spent a lot of our time enjoying an abundance of good food (shout out to the best French cafe/bakery Frenchot!) and just truly relaxing in the sun. One of our favourite spots was Onetangi Beach - the pohutakwa's were incredible!

If you ever get a change to go to Waiheke Island, don't think twice about it. Go! It's a little slice of paradise just 30 minutes from Auckland City, and one that certainly shouldn't be missed.
